 ===

When "the Last Post" is sounded at the setting of the Vigil Guard during military funerals, memorials, and commemorations, it signifies the final roll-call before the deceased departs our earthly world. "The Last Post" is the military version of the nunc dimittis (the release of the 'soul'). It is also a pledge that we who survive will continue the "good fight" in the name of our departed friend - including keeping watch over our friend's family. We officially renew the pledge twice annually - on Anzac Day, and on Remembrance Day.

You may hear the nunc dimittis verbalised at military services, when Army Dismounted Arms / Navy Buglers, or Army Mounted Arms / Air Force Trumpeters are not available...

     "Earth to earth, and dust to dust," Calmly now the words we say;

     Leaving him to sleep, in trust, Till the resurrection-day.

     Father, in thy gracious keeping, Leave we now thy servant sleeping.

     From: Hymn Nr 401 (Hymns Ancient and Modern, 1916).

My request to you is simple...

Please give Legacy Australia a helping hand, to ensure the widows and children are cared for.

Legacy is an iconic Australian charity that was established in 1923 and founded on a promise made from one digger to another – to “look after the missus and the kids.”

Legacy relies on donations and bequests for nearly 75% of it's total annual revenue. This revenue is mission essential, and ensure that no dependant of a veteran suffers financial or social disadvantage as a result of their loved ones’ death or injury from service.

We are all part of our forebears LEGACY.

//////

I am not asking for you to priotitise Legacy over your personal committments. I am, however, asking you to consider contibuting to Legacy's costs by making a one-off eqivalent dollar-value donation of a "cuppa", "a pint of beer", or even "a slab" (or two).
